Dominic is a qualified Teacher, currently working in an SLP – Autism program working with students from Years 1 to 3. He began his journey as an SLP & Ed Support educator five years ago at a High school SLP-Autism Program and has since supported neurodivergent students in both primary and secondary settings.

Dominic’s Story:

I struggled a lot in my youth trying to fit in socially at school. I often had negative social interactions with peers as I tried to navigate social expectations and maintain friendships. At 21, after the birth of my son, I made a decision that changed my life. I devoted a large amount of time to learning and practising social skills and social awareness in a desperate effort to feel normal when interacting with people outside my inner-circle.

Through this path of self-development, my social skills rapidly shifted from being a conscious effort to becoming a natural complement to my true personality. I was able to build friendships and connect with others on a deeper level. I began to share more positive interactions with the people I met and began confidently expressing myself. The positive responses I received improved my self-worth and enriched my life in ways I hadn’t imagined possible.

This is why I became an SLP teacher: to help the next generation of neurodivergent young people experience the same life-changing benefits of improved social skills and confidence as I did growing up.

Being neurodivergent is amazing and it's responsible for most of my best qualities, but the associated lack of social awareness was one of my biggest obstacles. This is an obstacle I understand deeply — and one I’m passionate about helping young people overcome.

This is why Play Panda Exists. We’ve walked this path, and we’re ready to give your child the tools to walk it too.

Steven Noble - Session Facilitator

Dominic Collier - Lead Facilitator

Steven is a qualified Special Needs Education Assistant (Level 3) currently working in a SLP-Autism Program with year groups 4-6.

Steven's Story:

I've been working with additional needs kids for over half a decade and my journey started because of some challenges I was facing at home. As a dad to a young daughter in primary school experiencing social and emotional challenges, I wanted to get-up and make a difference so I could be there to support my child.

Like many parents, I wanted to help her handle the ups and downs of growing up—especially when it came to friendships and big feelings. That led me to the Midvale Parenting Hub, where I took part in several workshops and learned practical ways to support children through life’s challenges.

After a couple of years and plenty of learning, I realised how much I enjoyed helping these kids feel understood and supported. I decided to leave my old job in pool maintenance and jump into working full-time with children requiring additional support. Since then, I’ve worked in primary schools, special needs classrooms, and after-school care, mostly with kids who need a bit of extra help accessing curriculum and facilitating social interaction inside the classroom and on the playground.

What matters most to me is making sure every child feels welcome, safe, and listened to. I always aim to bring patience, kindness, and a sense of fun to everything I do—whether that’s playing games, helping with schoolwork or just having a chat.

It’s incredibly rewarding to see kids grow in confidence and start believing in themselves. Being part of their journey, even in small ways, is what makes this work so special to me.

“As the Program Coordinator of the SLP at Ocean Reef Senior, I worked with Dominic during his time as an educator in our program. He had a strong understanding of how to connect with our students with ASD and consistently showed a genuine passion for building their social skills and supporting peer relationships. He also demonstrated his high level of skills in developing relationships with students, staff and parents which provided a positive role model to students as did his positive communications with students with ASD.”
